The seminar focuses on Constantinople, which was the capital of two empires. Topics like the city's foundation, its establishment as an imperial capital, and its resettlement after the fall of 1453 will be examined. Additionally, the role of religions and the relationship of religious communities with the central administration—Byzantine and Ottoman—will be discussed. The shaping of the urban landscape, aspects of daily life, economic activity, and intellectual movements, as well as the portrayal of the city and its inhabitants by foreign travelers, will also be explored.
