The overall duration of studies is eight semesters. Each academic year comprises two semesters, of 13 weeks each. An examination period of twenty days corresponds to each semester. There is a third examination period (repetitive for all courses) in September.
Winter semester:
COURSES: October 1st until mid January
EXAMINATIONS: mid January until first week of February
Christmas holidays: 2 weeks
Spring semester:
COURSES: second week of February until end of May
EXAMINATIONS: June
Easter holidays: 2 weeks
Teaching Language
Courses are taught in Greek. Most of the instructors offer incoming Erasmus students courses on a tutorial basis in one of the main European languages (usually in English or French, occasionally in German). Students have to hand in essays on a chosen topic or take the exams in one of the above languages (according to the instructor).
Modern Greek language courses
The Ionian University (Dept. of Foreign Languages, Translation & Interpreting) offers Greek Language Courses for Erasmus students during the academic year (October- June), free of charge (6 ECTS).
ECTS
The Ionian University has adopted the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), a system of academic credit allocation and transfer. This system facilitates the recognition of periods of study abroad for ERASMUS students.
The courses offered in the Department of History are accredited 5 ECTS for each three hours course.
