Short Description:

This course examines the relation of Modern Greek poetry to history with emphasis on C. P. Cavafy’s poetry, more specifically his poems that have a direct or indirect relation to history, also his pseudo-historical poems.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

This course focuses on poetic texts and by reading Cavafy’s poetry that relate to history we aim to examine Cavafy’s poetics and his reading of crucial and often unknown aspects of history.

Week #2: History and literature. Cavafy’s archive.

Week #3: Cavafy’s poetry that directly relates to history

Week #4: Cavafy’s poetry that directly relates to history II

Week #6: Cavafy’s poetry that directly relates to history IV

Week #7: Cavafy’s poetry that indirectly relates to history
