MODERN GREEK PROSE (1960-2017)

Introduction to the 1960s. Individuals and History in Greek Prose: Stratis Tsirkas, Dimitris Chatzis, Andreas Fraghiàs, Thanassis Valtinos. The Angry Youth of Greek Prose:  Marios Hakkas, Antonis Samarakis, Renos Apostolidis, Vassilis Vassilikos. The “Low Voices”: Yorgos Ioannou, Kostas Tachtsis. Departures from Realism. Greek Prose during the Dictatorship (1967-74). Individuals and Society in Greek Prose (1974-2017).

The course is an introduction to Modern Greek Prose (1960-2017) through literary criticism and reading/ analysis of literary texts.

By the end of the course the student should be able to understand literary topics, writing styles and movements that relate to post-1960 Greek literary prose, and discuss aspects of ideology and form/ movements of the time through the reading of literary texts.
