INVITATION TO A COOPERATION MEETING IN ORDER TO DESIGN THE HERITAGE INVENTORY AND THE COMMUNITY MAP OF ‘PETRITIS ECOMUSEUM’

Primary School of Petritis, 14.06.2019, 18:30

The Ionian University in cooperation with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu and the Fishermen’s Association of Petritis are pleased to invite you in a participatory meeting within the framework of the Project FISH&CHIPS “Fisheries and Cultural Heritage, Identity and Participated Societies”, funded by the Interreg V-A Greece-Italy Programme 2014-2020, under Priority Axis 2 – Integrated Environmental Management- with a budget of about 900.000,00 €. Partners of the project are The University of Foggia (lead beneficiary), Puglia Region and the Italian General Confederation of Enterprises, Professions and Self-employment of Taranto- and two Greek partners- the Ionian University and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corfu. Associated partners are the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto MarTA and the Fisherman’s Association of Petritis (Corfu).

The project focuses on sea, fishing and maritime traditions and aims to give value to the archaeological and cultural heritage of the area of Taranto in Puglia and the island of Corfu in Greece, creating concrete opportunities for diversification of fishing communities’ economic activities and seasonal adjustment. The involved areas are characterized by a widespread presence of both cultural tangible materials (archaeological, architectural, both emerged and submerged) and cultural intangible materials (crafts, traditions, events), proving the intense interaction between man and coastal environment over the centuries. The FISH&CHIPS project through its actions, will identify, enhance and preserve tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Italian and Greek coasts for tourist purposes involving fishing operators and local tour operators as key players.

Within the framework of the project, the "Petritis Ecomuseum", will be established at Corfu, which through an info-point  at Petritis and a Network of Cultural Routes (Terrestrial and Maritime) in Southern Corfu, will strongly contribute to the emergence of local identity and the offer of special interest tourism. The Ecomuseum will be a bridge between the study area, its heritage and the local community.

Three participatory meetings with the local societies of Southern Corfu will take place for the planning and development of the Ecomuseum. The objective of the first meeting at Petritis, on Friday 14th June 2019, at 18:30 is to record the elements of the natural and cultural heritage which society itself considers to be insufficient preserved and promoted and the same time shape their local identity and its uniqueness!

Your contribution is important and valuable!
