Summer Course in the Field: Archaeological Materials with Anno Hein

As part of the ΛΕΥΚΙΟΣ Project, the first two seasons, we launch the Archaeological Materials – (part of the MSc in Field Archaeology https://fa.ha.uth.gr/) summer course coordinated by Dr Anno Hein of the Democritus Research Centre.

This intensive course allows students to work directly with archaeological materials unearthed during the excavation and surface survey, focusing on the analysis, documentation, and interpretation of plasters, mortars, ceramics, and metallurgical by-products.

Students have the opportunity to practice material sampling and scientific methods (pXRF, micro-sampling, pRAMAN), combining hands-on fieldwork with lab-based instruction.

The course offers a unique educational experience that bridged archaeological science and heritage fieldwork — strengthening both technical skills and critical understanding of material culture.
