Who is Leukios?

Leukios, son of Theokles, citizen of the Sounion Deme is named in the inscription  found in the area of our fieldwork, an honorary decree recognising his donation of land to the deme for the foundation of a new agora to replace an earlier one that had been overbuilt. In other inscriptions he is also referred to as a member of the liturgical class and a property owner in the mining district, first attested in 367/6 BC and later as a mine lessee. His father Theokles may be identified with a Sounian among the leaders of the resistance to the Tyranny of the Thirty in 401/0 BC. These prosopographical data suggest a date for the inscription between ca. 370 and 330 BC.
